Organizing your trip
Ancient Olympia is relatively easy to get to from Athens. Ancient Olympia is located 320 kilometers (198 miles) east of Athens, approximately a 4-hour drive. Participants should fly into Athens International Airport (ATH), which offers numerous flights from various international destinations.
We suggest that you arrange your arrival at Athens’ airport no later than the morning of Wednesday 6th of May 2026 or the day before.
There are bus, taxi, and metro options to travel from Athens’ airport to the city center. The trip from Athens International Airport to the city center (Syntagma Square) will take 30-35 minutes using the metro. Bus options are also available. You can also use your credit/debit card to get on the metro or the bus in Athens instead of using a ticket. The SITL will provide bus transportation from the city center (Syntagma Square) to Ancient Olympia. Rented buses will depart from Syntagma Square on Wednesday 6th of May 2026, at 14.00 (pm) and will arrive around 18.30 (pm) on site. Thursday and Friday will be the main conference days. Buses will depart from Ancient Olympia for the center of Athens (Syntagma Square) early Saturday morning (see table below).
Please make sure that you arrive at Athens’ city center (Syntagma Square) before 14.00 (pm) on Wednesday 6th of May. Furthermore, be sure to arrange your return flight from Athens leaving no earlier than 15.00 (pm), Saturday 9th of May.
Note: Buses on our return will first go directly to Athens’ airport to help those who have a flight to catch and then to Athens’ city center (Syntagma Square) for those who would like to spend more time in Athens.

What if I cannot follow the above suggested plan?
For those who will not be able to follow the suggested plan above, here are some information. From Athens visitors can also reach Ancient Olympia by bus or by rented car. In order to take a bus to Ancient Olympia you need first to go to the bus station of Athens (“KTEL” is the short name for “Bus Station” in Greek).
